Jane, Truro, Cornwall, “Not exceptionally technically minded!”
So far easy to use and replay. Not used disks or 2 x programme recording yet. Teenages cottoned on very quickly!
Buttons and disk slot very earily accessable for my toddler. No guard.

large hard drive, plays divx format, came with free 1gb memory stick
limited top menu options screens, only 9 and all a bit similar. Controls could be more user friendly, they're ok once you become more familar with the operations thou

Simple to use. Easy to set repeat programmes. Easy to find and watch recorded programmes.
Instruction book missing some minor detail: less clear how to watch tapes from separate VCR. Digital guide marred by unnecessary advertising.

Angela, Devizes, “Enthusiastic”
It is very easy to use and the remote control is also very easy to manage and comprehensive.
The only critisism I have is the display panel is quite small and could do with being slightly bigger.

Music catalog option with CD & mp3 recorede on hard drive- you never need to put CD in again, Dix, good upscaling
little slow, bad buttons placement on unit, a little unfriendly remote control but nothing major

I have gone through the whole range of PVR's, DVD recorders etc........ this one is quite sleek in design, and has many functions either not listed or not explained. The big one being - the USB port on it. You CAN take an AVI film from your PC and put it onto the supplied 1GB memory stick and play it on your TV without transcoding it. You can record to the stick, or from the stick too. The remote control also has a few of your TV functions too, one being the AV button. If like me - you have loads of gadgets attached - then you will be only too familiar of switching channels with the TV remote to find other AV gadgets attached. With this - you only need one controller
Big hang up for me - It only has one digital freeview decoder. If you record something - you cannot change channel unless it is to another non freeview input. I have plugged another freeview box into my set up so that if i am recording a freeview channel - i can flick to another AV channel with the spare freeview box attached.

Excellent range of features
The functions are not very intuitive to use and the design of the buttons on the remote control could be better

Very versatile machine, like the ease of setting for selected programme recording, either current showing or coming up, or complete series
Would prefer the guide screen without the advert panel.

Anthony, Basingstoke, “Over 75, male, intelligent.”
Straightforward to install and connect to the TV and satellite box. In use, recording and playback present no problems. Having a hard disc on which to record simplifies the process.
!00 page book of instructions is somewhat daunting for the average non-technical person.

Richard, Cambridge, “middle aged chap”
Very good value indeed. Lots of features, probably more than any other unit in its price range. Easy to set up and use straight away. Very comprehensive printed manual with no need to resort to PDF versions as with some manufacturers. All necesssary cables included.
A number of quirks in menu system which are hard to understand. Keeps dropping back to terestrial TV when you sitch from one mode to another. You then have to press AV to get back to digital TV. Also the programme guide, which is otherwise excellent, is spoiled by the presence of large adverts occupying 1/3 of the screen. Intensly irritating, although functionality is not impaired

technical quality first class
The circular control at the bottom of the remore is fiddly.

Neat and tidy. looks good and has a number of useful bells and whistles. Time will prove whether or not it is truly reliable
The instructions are a little complicated and not always clear. Seeking info from the index is awkward as their terminology and mine are different. I am computer literate.

Peter, York, “A keen video enthusiast ”
I had the product highly recommended, and I am looking forward to learning how to use it to it's full potential.
As a beginner of limited knowledge in the use of the product, which I mainly require to edit video. I would have appreciated a C.D. explaining this particular aspect, I find the instruction manual tends to make one's head spin

As it has viera linkage with tv only needs 1 remote for all functions.
Drawer open and close button not in position you would expect it to be.

Excellent clarity of images and audio through both TV and AV 5 channel system. Simple programming guide and operation. Useful to store and play MP3 music, loads of disc space for recording.
Not so much a bad point as a more useful option, being able to record one channel and record a different one as it only has one freeview tuner. But with other freeview TVs in the house it is not an issue!

Mike, Bristol
Very easy to use with good on-screen navigation and menus. If you want to store and edit lots of video and music the DMREX78 will easily do it. A real bonus is the USB port on the front - makes moving images and MP3 files from your computer very easy.
None really - except that it won't read discs that I have burned on my laptop (a Mac), but that may be the fault of the burning software on the computer; so I do it via the USB input.

Slim design,on screen recording guide easy to use,250GB hard drive gives hours and hours of program storage.
Twin tuners would be useful to record to hard drive or DVD at the same time. and there is no SD card slot.
