Good picture quality on standard 2hr recording and acceptable quality on 4hrs extended play. Integrates well with Panasonic TV, as you would expect, allowing the TV remote control to start immediate recording. Two low power standy modes, 2.4 W and 15W, depending on your setup. Provides DVD upscaling to 1080p Good integrated digital TV guide, 7 days ahead.

If you do a lot of recording, or want to pause and resume live TV, you need the version with a built in Hard disk. If you start recoding from the TV, and the recorder is in low power standy, then it takes a minute or so, for the recording to get underway.

Can watch a programme that is being recorded from the begining before it has finished recording

A little complicated to use. No automatic warning if not enough space on disc for the recording being set up.

Very easy to set up and easy to use. If setting up the DVD to record a freeview channel, very quick and easy. Just select the programme and press ok and it is done!

Fab quality recordings, will record onto any kind of disc. Excellent DVD playback (with upscaling and HDMI).

The power saver is great, picture superb (I use RAM discs) sound is good as well.

The instruction book is a nightmare. I've had the recorder for 3 weeks and I'm still struggling. I've had a Panasonic before and I can't remember being this confused about the set up and features.

The panasonic sets up easy and has a good TV guide. Picture quality on the 4 hour setting is excellent (8 hour setting has not been tried yet). There is a low power standby feature that seems good

The usual hieroglyphics of an instruction manual that doesn't make anything particularly easy. There isn't a clear menu function on the remote control

jurys out still - sometimes wont open the tray to insert a disc. Very slow to start up.

Simple to use if you just want to record television programmes

Despite what the instruction leaflet says, it will not record tapes from a VCR. It's fine from a camcorder, but camcorder tapes recorded on VHS tapes cannot be recorded to DVD by this machine.

Simple and straight forward to use. Excellent system for timer recording using the built in guide.
