Toshiba RD-XS25-S-TE

I am a 40 year old disabled housewife with limited technical experience. It's easy to read manual makes set up and use stress free. Recording to the hdd then to the disk does not lose quility at all. If I can get the hang of it, so can you.

Shame it hasn't got freeview on it as well. But if you already have it, sky (as I have) or something similar then 100% recommend it.

The hard drive makes it easy to record things if you are in a hurry and you can't find a DVD. Also it saves you money on buying DVD's if you are just going to watch the programme on the same tv. Large hard drive = plenty of space to record programmes, little chance of it running out.

Can only record on DVD-R,-RW. This meant i had to throw out a number of DVD's i had for my old recorder.

Easy to use. Very good features. Particularly being able to watch a prerecorded program or DVD while recording another program.

Would be better with RF-out for TV's without scart - there is an RF-out but it doesnt have modulator so is quite useless really.I was aware of this before purchase and feel it is reflected in the price.

Good enough for plug and play but offers loads of options for those who wish to do the clever things. Hard drive is excellent and encourages one to make recordings.

Momentary flicker when recording first starts. This doesn't impact on the recording so it's not a problem just a slight irritant.

setup was easy and the item is so much easier to use than my previous video recorder or perhaps its just new techno stuff, however being a simple silver surfer and a luddite i do find the recorder so much easier to use.

display when on standby appears to be a bit small making it difficult to read, otherwise nothing else found at this time.

Mine sometimes doesn't go onto standby which means my recording doesn't come out- it freezes and the only way to resolve this is to un plug and then plug in again.

Does not have freeview or work with a freeview enabled TV. Poor quality with normal terrestial.

None other than the item can be noisy (presumably HD whirring or hum) when switched on in operation.

I have had no problems whilst using the machine, it comes with a good instruction manual and features such as dividing scenes helps you cut out all the adverts are helpful.

Instruction booklet is massive , need to take the time to fully read it to get the most out of the product.

As always these things are so hard to get to set up and then to use.

Good value for money

Editing accessed via the Setup option should be more easily accessible direct through the main playlist/main menu option. Also one should be able to put title of programme to be recorded from the timer programme menu. Changing the title can only be done AFTER the programme has been recorded

This was purcased for my father although not a complete tecniphobe, he did find the basic record and play back functions a bit hard to master, after several trips to show him the same thing over again i think, hope he is getting there! but not bad for the price.

It is smart and easy to use, it is handy having the hard drive as you can store so much on it and then sort through at your leisure

The hard drive hums all the time it is turned on so you have to turn it off when you are not recording or storing programmes

It does all that I require of it and iam sure it is capable of far more!

Far too difficult to use, poor instruction manual, far too complicated to use. Progress should make thinks easier! I don't bother to record anything fro m the TV as it never works and that;s what I bought it for.

Easy to use. Works well with a Freeview box that has a timer function, as it can link using the "Sat" feature. Excellent features for the price.

Low level hum from the box when switched on. Remote is functional rather than stylish. Some DVD games do not work with this unit. Only compatible with DVD -R or -RW recordable discs.

I read the clear instructions, I plugged it in and turned it on, and it really was easy peasy from thereon out. Quite different to my previous experience, spent many hours, days without getting the damn thing to work, then gave up and returned it - so this was really great to use.
